John McDouall Stuart was born at Dysart, Fife, Scotland, on the 7th of September 1815 and baptised on the 6th of October that year, youngest and ninth child of William Stuart and Mary McDouall.[1]

The Transcontinental Australian Highway is named after him.

The Australian Overland Telegraph Line followed his expedition route of 1861/2

John McDouall Stuart passed away at London, England, on the 5th of June 1866, aged 50 years, and was buried in the Kensal Green Cemetery.[2][3][4][5]
