Thomas was born about 1670, to a father also named Thomas Story, in Justice Town in the parish of Kirklinton, near Carlisle, England.
He married Ann Shippen, daughter of Edward Shippen (the first mayor of Philadelphia) in 1706, but she passed away after only four years of marriage and the two did not have any children. Thomas never remarried.
Story was a prominent Quaker.
He passed away in 1742.
