Biography

Hattie Stone was born March 8, 1871 in Edgefield, South Carolina[1] Hattie was the daughter of Jesse Moses Stone and Mary Louis Corley.[2]

Hattie, age 10, appears in the 1880 Federal census in Edgefield county, South Carolina in the household of her father, Jesse Stone.[2]

Hattie married 1st the widower Wright Atticus Dickerson Blackwell, about 1890, per the 1900 Federal census. [3] Hattie was the 2nd wife of Wright Atticus Dickerson Blackwell, and he was her 1st husband. Wright Atticus Dickerson Blackwell died the 19th of May, 1904.[4][5] The obituary of W.A.D. Blackwell appeared in the Edgefield Advertiser as follows: "Death of a West-Side Citizen - No community can lose a citizen of sterling worth, such as was Mr. W.A.D. Blackwell who died at his home near Parksville on Friday evening last, without feeling very keenly the loss. When such men are removed from the state of action their places are not easily filled. Mr. Blackwell was the devoted father of twelve children, four by his first marriage and eight by his second. An affectionate wife, who before her marriage was Miss Stone, survives him. The deceased was a kind and thoughtful neighbor, a friend to everybody and everybody was his friend. He was an active member of the Baptist church and a Woodman of the World and a Mason, holding the position of master in the Parksville lodge. The members of the later order laid the mortal body of their deceased brother to rest on Saturday afternoon, the Edgefield lodge being represented by O. Sheppard, Esq., and Mr. J.B. Holtiwanger. The pastor of the deceased, Rev. B.P. Mitchell, conducted the funeral."[6]

Hattie married her 2nd husband the widower Levi S. Ridlehoover (also spelled Riddlehoover) in 1909, based on the number of years married in the 1910 Federal census, in the household of L.S. Ridlehoover in Edgefield county, South Carolina. The 1910 Federal census list Hattie as the mother of 10 children with 8 children living.[7] Hattie was Levi S. Ridlehoover's 3rd wife, and he was her 2nd husband.

Hattie, age 48, appears in the 1920 Federal census in McCormick county, South Carolina with her husband Levi Ridlehoover who is listed as age 74, no occupation. Hattie's occupation is listed as Boarding house keeper.[8]

Hattie and her second husband, Levi S. Ridlehoover were separated or divorced before 1930. Hattie, age 61, appears in the 1930 Federal census in Laurens county, South Carolina, listed as a widow. Hattie is listed as an employee, working as a Matron, of the State Training School.[9]

Hattie's second husband, Levi S. Ridlehoover, age 86, appears in the household of his son Walter C. Ridlehoover in the 1930 Federal census in Greenwood county, South Carolina. Levi is listed as a widower.[10] Levi S. Ridlehoover died the 26th of April 1933.[11] The following obituary for Levi S. Ridlehoover appeared in The Greenville News: "Sumter L.
