Biography

Rubin, child of Michael Stocks and Rebecca Stocks, was born on 27 May and baptised on 11 September 1831 in Stainland, Halifax, Yorkshire, England.^[1]

Reuben (age 10) arrived with his family in New Orleans on 14 January 1842^[2]

Reuben settled on an 80-acre farm at Eight Mile Precinct in Carterville Township. He married Nancy Adaline North on 11 Jan 1854 at Williamson County. Their children are:

• Mary Adeline

On18 Jun 1861, he entered the Union side of the Civil War as a private in Company K, 18th Illinois Infantry. While on furlough from military duty, an unknown assailant shot him in the stomach at his front door. This was not the first deadly shooting in Williamson County and would not be the last.
