Son of Edward and Lily Bennett Stipp. Short memoirs of Arthur Stipp.
"I was just past seven years of age when I last saw my father's parents (George Stipp and Mary McFadden) but remember them as being nice people to get along with when I and Allen were at times left in their care so that my parents might visit with my mother's folks who lived near Martinsville and it was, in those days, quite a trip and one better taken without all the kids. I remember my grandfather Stipp was so easy to get along with that he, on one occasion when I and Allen had torn down his woodpile, gave us each a quarter not to do it again. My father had a different way of handling such occurrences. I seem to remember that at Grandpa's house the rule was "Chicken dinner every day". I could be wrong but I know they had a lot of chickens running around. There were a lot of uncles, aunts and cousins and we either had visitors every weekend or went to visit some of them. Great grandfather Stipp was German born but came to the U.S. quite young. He came to Indiana in 1817 from Kentucky by way of horse and wagon. My grandmother Stipp was born McFadden and she had a brother Newton. That is all I know. She was Mary. Grandfather Stipp was a quite well-to-do farmer and well respected by his neighbors. He was able to give each of his two sons a nice farm when they married and did equally well by his two daughters Alice and Ella."
