Robert was born in 1796 to James and Lydia (Moorhead) Stewart. He would marry Amy Kinman Ireland of Tennessee around 1822. They would have six children:

Listed as a millwright in 1850 census of Ray County, Missouri.
Robert served honorably in 1814 as a soldier in the Battle of Baltimore against the English, in the Missouri Militia in October and November of 1838 under Governor Boggs against the Mormons at Far West, Caldwell County, Missouri, as a teamster in the Mexican War in 1846 under Colonel Doniphan in Santa Fe and then with the Home Guards during the Great Rebellion (Civil War). He then enrolled in Company C, 67th Regiment of the Missouri Militia and was ordered into service in Wellsville that very same day. He was approximatly 68 years old during the Civil War.
Fought in the War of 1812 and joined the Union Army, serving for another 2 years, after his son John Harris Stewart was killed... according to family history.
Robert would pass away in 1871 after fighting in three wars for the United States of America.
