Sheila was born in 1933 and her birth was registered in Hampstead, London, England in Jul-Sep 1933. She was the daughter of Fred Stevenson and Nellie (Wilks) Stevenson and the second of their three children. Her father Fred was a "motor omnibus driver" at least between 1928 and Feb 1933.[1][2][3]

The family lived at the following addresses in greater London:

  • At marriage (1 July 1928): Fred: 76 Church Road, Willesden, northwest London (historic Middlesex); Nellie: 13 Craven Road (perhaps Craven Park Road), perhaps Willesden.[1]
  • At Joan's birth (30 Aug 1929): 3 Bonny Street, St Pancras (now part of Camden), north-central London (historic Middlesex).[2]
  • On Fred's bus driver's licence (6 Feb 1933): 10 Marthorne Crescent, Wealdstone, Harrow, on the edge of northwest London (historic Middlesex).[3]
  • An update on Fred's bus driver's licence (27 Feb 1933): Woodcroft Avenue, Wealdstone, Harrow.[3]
  • At registration of Sheila's birth (Jul-Sep 1933): perhaps in/near Hampstead, north-central London (historic Middlesex), as that is where her birth was registered.[4]
  • At registration of Peter's birth (Oct-Dec 1936): perhaps in/near Camberwell, south London (historic Surrey), as that is where his birth was registered.[5]
  • Last address before Nellie and the children moved to New Zealand (8 Dec 1939): 7 [indecipherable, looks like Millow, maybe Milton?] Rd, Herne Hill, South London (historic Surrey).[6]

Fred moved to Auckland, New Zealand in c. 1938 and the rest of the family followed in 1939.[7] The cost of passage for Nellie and the children (approx £120) was loaned and part-funded by the London County Council, arranged by the Council's Public Assistance Department.[8] Nellie and her three children are recorded as leaving London for Auckland on the Rangitane on 8 Dec 1939.[6]

Sheila moved to what was then called the Territory of New Guinea in c. 1960, where she married John Leslie Simpson.[9] They had two sons. Sheila died in tragic circumstances in New Guinea when her second son Living Morgan (listed as adoptive parents' son) was just six months old.[9] After this, Sheila's older sister Joan adopted her younger son, while her older boy, Colin, was raised by his father.
