Hi Michel,

Thank you for self-certifying for the Pre-1700 badge! Collaboration with Pre-1700 Project members is essential for those wishing to edit Pre-1700 profiles because those ancestors are usually shared by many descendants.

It looks like the Germany and Jewish Roots Projects would be good fits based on your branch of WikiTree. Review the project pages to learn about resources and guidelines as well as how to collaborate with the project members.

We use a languages template in our biographies to help other members know which languages we are comfortable with. Would you consider adding the template to your profile? It really aids collaboration with other members. For German, French, and English, you could copy the following code, then edit your own profile, paste it as a top line, and save.

{{ Languages | de | fr-4 | en-4 }}

That code would place a box on your profile showing that German is your native language and that you are fluent in French and English. You can adjust the codes to be more accurate for yourself.

Do you have any questions? Let me know. I'm happy to help! :-)

Hi Debi,

Thank you for your welcoming.

Following your advice, I added the languages template to my profile's biography and adapted it to my real language skills. As to membership in more projects, I'll consider it some time later because I have started to upload my GEDCOM file that includes two decades of research. I already have been working on it for a couple of months and have only done one third of it. It is a huge work I decided to concentrate on.

Nevertheless, I'm keeping preciously your other suggestions for later use.

Best regards from Paris, France,

Michel Stermann

Thank you, Michel, it is great to see your language boxes *smile*

You have already been creating profiles and editing them but there might be a few tips in the GEDCOMpare process tutorial that will help as you continue. It was created by one of our mentors and I still refer to it occasionally as a guide.

Participation in the various ongoing tasks of any Project can definitely wait until you are ready. The main thing for pre-1700 profiles is the need for more stringent sourcing using the various Project guidelines as explained in the Profiles FAQ.

I look forward to seeing the rest of your twig growing amoung the branches of WikiTree.

Hello Michel!

You've been a member for a while so I thought I would check in to see how it's going. Have the How-Tos been helpful or left you with questions? Most of us have questions after all that information!

I want to help! Click my name, send me a private message or ask in the comment section of my page. Sometimes links don't work in emails. If that's happened to you, check the public comments on your profile. The links will work from there.

Cindy ~ WikiTree Messenger

PS To find reliable sources for your profiles, go to the Family Tree & Tools tab; select Genealogy Research and scroll down near the bottom of that list and select Research with RootsSearch. There are over 20 websites to access from there.

Thank you for volunteering. You are now a full member of WikiTree.

Start with the New Member How-To Pages - they are really useful as you add profiles and learn your way around:

Let me know if you require assistance. I am happy to help. After adding my own family and ancestors I have found many cousins and distant ancestors here on WikiTree.
