Thank you for the detailed information on the Hellental near Odessa Ukraine. It appears the 1830 settlement is takes it's name from the Rhineland Hellental towns near Saarland and in the Eifel. My surname Helmental could be a miss reading of the old german gothic script where the "..llen" looks like "lmen".

My Y- DNA is R1b- U106 from FamilyTree DNA testing. My ancestry is from Rhine valley of Germany. However, Garrett Hellenthal who published "A Genetic Atlas of Human Admixture History." Science 343:6172 (February 14, 2014): pages 747-751. He states that "Among Russian men, the Y-DNA haplogroup R1b ranges in frequency from 0 to 14 percent, and is found on average among 5.8%. Perhaps there is a Russian link to the Helenthal surname.

I saw your Fredericka Steigmann formerly Grenz Born June 4, 1858 in Helenthal, South Russia.

Other genealogists with my surname Helmantoler, Helmandollar, Helmenthal claim that Helenthal is the original form and is from 3 locations in Germany. I cannot find any geographic reference to Helenthal, South Russia. Could this be a reference to East Germany?

Hi!

Our vision is to build a collaborative tree with one profile per person. The farther back you go, it's likely you will find duplicate profiles to link into, so it's a good idea to do a search before you create a new profile.

Do you have Royal Ancestors? If so, they are already here! Please contact the EuroAristo Project to discuss connecting your family line to their already existing profiles.

WikiTree strives to be a fun, collaborative, productive site. It's also different than what many people are used to. Please take advantage of the Help Menu in the upper right hand corner, our G2G Forum and of course, our Mentors :)

Do you have any questions I can help with?

Eowyn ~ Mentor/Team Member

I see where you have uploaded your DNA for comparison. Did you know we have a project for DNA where a lot of great new things are happening? If you are interested and would like to check it out, go to the FIND link top right of your profile page, select PROJECTS from the drop down box, and then select the link for the DNA project. It has information listed that might be of interest to you, and feel free to contact any of the members if you would like additional details.
