Biography

Abb Tennison Steele was born on October 18, 1878, in Rutherford County, Tennessee. He was the son of Ammon Steele and Polly Tennison. He married Eva Wright in 1897, Davidson County, Tennessee. They had no children. He died on November 23, 1951, in Hermitage, Tennessee, at the age of 73, and was buried there.

A. T. Steele, 73, Davidson county bondsman and farmer, died last night at St. Thomas hospital. Mr. Steele suffered a cerebral hemorrhage while driving his automobile on Couchville pike shorty after noon yesterday. Death came seven hours later.

A resident of Hermitage, Tenn., Mr. Steele was the son of Mr. and Mrs. A. M. Steele. He was born in Rutherford county but had spent most of his adult life in Davidson county.

Mr. Steele entered the charcoal business with his father as a young man. About 25 years ago he was appointed court officer by Judge Chester K. Hart. Twenty-four years ago he founded the firm of Steele and Corbitt as a partnership with John C. Corbitt of Nashville. He had been active in the bonding business until the last and until recently had conducted intensive farming operations on his 250 acre farm at Hermitage.

Mr. Steele was married about 50 years ago to the former Miss Eva Wright of Davidson county. She survives. He had been an active member of the Phillipi Church of Christ in the Hermitage community.

Funeral services will be Monday afternoon at 1 p.m. at the Phillips-Robinson funeral home. R. V. Cawthorn and Clyde Gleaves will conduct. Burial will be in Mount Olivet cemetery.

Other than his widow, there are no survivors. Active pallbearers will include B. G. Thornhill, Odell Waldron, Andrew Woodroof, Freeman Dobson, William Morrow, Marvin Tignor, J. B. Bright and John C. Corbitt Jr.
