Biography
Private George (Stacpoole) Stackpoole served in the United States Civil War. Enlisted: May 27, 1861 Mustered out: Jul 28, 1861 Side: USA Regiment(s): 83rd New York Volunteer Infantry
He lived with his parents and siblings in New York, United States. In the 1860 Census he was aged 28 and an Upholsterer.
In the Trow's New York City directory (1859-1860) George was recorded as being an Upholsterer, of 83 Hudson Avenue, New York[1]. Also at the address was his father Francis and brother Richard, who was a lawyer.
With the advent of the Civil War, George enlisted to fight on 27 May 1861 at New York. He was assigned the rank of Private with the 83rd New York Volunteer Infantry, Company A.
He was mustered out on 28 July 1861 at Bolivar, West Virginia with a disability. Sadly he passed away six months later on 23 January 1862 at the age of 29[2], probably unmarried, and was buried at Cypress Hills National Cemetery, Brooklyn, Kings County (Brooklyn), New York, United States[3].
