The Source-a-Thon 2019 will go from Friday, October 4 at 8 AM (ET) to Monday, October 7, 8 AM (ET). That would be 15.00 in Finland and 14.00 in the other Scandinavian countries.

I will tackle Finland starting with my own Unsourced list.

I am not a native Danish speaker, so I will stick to basic BMD from 1850ish onwards. This is my first Source-a-Thon.

4. Anders Lönnermark

I will work on Sweden, and since I will be away a large part of the weekend, I will focus on 1800-1899 where I have easiest access to sources.

5. Marie Ronnegård

I will work on Swedish 1700-1799 profiles. Might slip into the 1800-1899 as one often comes across whole trees that are unsourced.

What We're Doing

The idea of the Source-a-Thon is to make a collaborative effort of removing profiles from the Unsourced Profiles category.

The Spic-n-Span Scandinavian team will focus on finding good quality sources for profiles located in Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden. You find the lists at the bottom of this page.

We are not a competitive team, but we rather see that 10 different profiles get at least one quality source each than 1 one profile gets 10 quality sources. If you find an interesting profile/family to work on, perhaps you could continue the work after the Source-a-Thon?

Vi är inget tävlingsinriktat lag men vi ser hellre att 10 olika profiler får en bra källhänvisning vardera än att en enda profil får 10 bra källhänvisningar. Hittar du någon intressant profil/familj att arbeta med så kanske du kan fortsätta arbeta med den efter Source-a-Thon?

Spic-n-Span Scandinavians - pohjoismainen joukkue keskittyy etsimään lähteitä Tanskan, Suomen, Norjan, Islannin ja Ruotsin profiileihin. Löydät listat sivun alalaidassa.

Emme kilpaile verissä päin, mutta näkisimme mieluiten että kymmenen eri profiilia saa yhden hyvän lähdeviitteen, kun että yksi profiili saisi kymmenen hyvää lähdeviitettä. Jos löydät profiilin tai perheen johon haluaisit syventyä voisit ehkä jatkaa siitä kun Source-a-Thon on ohi?

How to do it

Choose a profile to work on.

Select an Open (white) profile from any of the lists at the bottom and search for sources to back up the facts of the person's life.

Or

Start with checking if you have any unsourced profiles on your own watchlist, there is a tab for "Unsourced". (You can source your own profiles if the profile already exist, but do not create profiles without sources and source them, that will not count as an contribution.)

Another way is to generate an unsourced report for all the profiles you manage by going to Unsourced Profiles and enter your profile ID in the "Managed by" field.

Valid sources include church books, census records, military documents, wills, etc. A source cannot be another family tree, such as Geni or an Ancestry Member Tree.

If you find a valid source:

• Edit the profile to add the source, according to our Sources guide.
• Remove the unsourced template, ie {{Unsourced}}
• Save the profile and click the Challenge Tracker button.
• On the Challenge Tracker, select the Source-a-Thon checkbox.

If you don't find any source, please add a Research Note to the profile. Say where you have looked and sign your comment with four tildes ~~~~ Then others will know who added it and when and the next researcher knows whats already been done.

For example: "Looked for Anna in the birth books of Veddige parish but couldn't find her.Andersson-4409 06:12, 4 September 2018 (UTC)"

Välj en profil att arbeta med

Välj en öppen profil (vitt hänglås) från någon av listorna längst ner på sidan och leta efter bra källhänvisningar för en händelse i personens liv.

Eller

Kolla i din egen "watchlist" (det finns en flik med "Unsourced") om du själv har några profiler utan källor. (Du kan lägga till källor på dina egna profiler som redan existerar, att göra nya profiler och lägga till källor räknas inte.)

Du kan även generera en lista över alla profiler med "unsourced" på som du är manager åt genom att gå till Unsourced Profiles, klicka på "Managed by" på vänstersidan och skriv ditt eget profil-ID i den tomma rutan där.

Godkända källor inkluderar tex kyrkböcker (gärna födelse, giftemål, död), folkräkningar, militära dokument, bouppteckningar. Ett annat släktträd på Geni eller Ancestry räknas inte som en godkänd källhänvisning.

Om du hittar en bra källa:

• Redigera profilen och lägg till källan (finns den online så lägg gärna en länk till sidan också)..
• Ta bort "unsourced template", dvs {{Unsourced}} från profilen
• Spara profilen och klicka på knappen "Challenge Tracker", sedan bockar/klickar du i rutan för "Source-a-Thon".

Hittar du inga källor trots att du försökt leta får du gärna lämna en anteckning på profilen, en " Research Note". Berätta var någonstans du letat och signera din kommentar/anteckning med fyra tilde ~~~~, då vet man vem som skrivit kommentaren och när den är skriven. Då vet nästa person som skall arbeta med profilen vad som redan är gjort.

Exempel; Letade efter Anna i födelseböckerna för Veddige 1810-1819 utan att hitta henne. Andersson-4409 08:31, 3 September 2018 (UTC).

Valitse avoin profiili (valkoinen riippulukko) mistä tahansa sivun alareunassa olevista luetteloista ja etsi hyviä lähdeviitteitä jollekin tapahtumalle henkilön elämässä.

Tarkista oma "watchlist" "My WikiTree"n alla (siellä on valinta "Unsourced") jos sinulla itselläsi on lähteettömiä profiileja. (Voit lisätä lähteitä omiin profiileihin jotka ovat jo olemassa. Lähteiden lisäämistä profiileihin jotka luot samalla ei lasketa.)

Voit myös luoda listan kaikista "unsourced" profiileista joissa olet manageri menemällä Unsourced Profiles sivulle, klikkaa vasemmalla olevaa "Managed by" ja kirjoita oma profiili-ID tyhjään ruutuun siinä.

Hyväksyttyihin lähteisiin kuuluvat esimerkiksi kirkonkirjat (mieluiten syntymä, avioliitto, kuolema), väestönlaskenta, sotilasasiakirjat, perunkirjoitukset. Toinen sukupuu Genistä tai Ancestrystä ei ole hyväksytty lähdeviite.

Jos löydät hyvän lähteen:

• Muokkaa profiilia ja lisää lähde (jos se on saatavilla verkossa, lisää myös linkki).
• Poista "unsourced template" eli {{Unsourced}} profiilista
• Tallenna profiili ja klikkaa "Challenge Tracker" -painiketta ja valitse sitten "Source-a-Thon" -ruutu.

Jos et löydä lähteitä vaikka etsit, yritä jättää huomautus profiiliin, "Research Note". Kerro mistä etsit ja allekirjoitat kommenttisi / muistiinpanosi neljällä aaltoviivalla ~~~~ , jotta nähdään kuka kirjoitti kommentin ja koska se on kirjoitettu. Sitten seuraava henkilö, joka työskentelee profiilin kanssa, tietää, mitä on jo tehty.
