Welcome to the Profile Improvement Project (PIP) Abandoned Team

Mission: The team will be improving biographies to at least a Level 2 using the criteria in the Profile Standards.
The task of this team is to improve Closed Account profiles (those left behind when member accounts have closed). Abandoned Team members are to improve profiles created by the former members. The task of the Abandoned Team does not include working on profiles not created by the former member, though they are welcome to do so.

The team will also be improving the Person Profiles identified as needing help by being included in the categories Long Profiles and Needs Footnotes. They will be worked to Level 2 of the Profile Standards. And if they can be taken to Level 3, that would be even better.

Closed Account profiles that need work can be found on the closed account spreadsheet. From there you will:
  • Choose a set of profiles to work on
  • Add your Wiki ID to the "Bio Team Wiki ID"
  • Hover your mouse over the link in column B, then click the link that pops up to open the contributions list of the former member
  • Click the "show paired items" link to show all the profile creations
  • Search for "'created'" and improve each of those profiles
  • Some of the profiles may have been adopted by other members. Be sure to communicate before editing if appropriate.
  • Proceed to work on the profiles in that set, improving them to the degree of Level 2 on the Profile Standards focusing on the Biography.
    • You do not need to adopt an orphaned profile unless it needs the Last Name at Birth (LNAB) changed. If you do adopt it, you can orphan it when you are finished with the name change. Then do what you can to improve it.
    • If the profile is part of a Project, you will collaborate with that Project.
    • You will add/preserve Maintenance categories.
  • When the set you have chosen is completed you will add the word "Finished" to the spreadsheet
  • You may then proceed to a new set.
Long Profiles and Profiles Lacking Inline Citations can be found on their respective Maintenance category pages:
  • Category:Long Profiles
  • Category:Profiles Lacking Inline Citations
  • Choose a profile from the Person Profiles section of the category page and proceed to improve the biography. The main objective will be to write a proper biography. You may also need to make other improvements to bring the profile up to Level 2 of the Profile Standards.
  • Once the profile is complete, the maintenance category you are working on can be removed from the profile.
Though these items will all be covered when following the Level 2 requirements on the Profile Standards, the process will include:
  1. Collaborate with active Profile Manager and/or Project
  2. Clean-up after merge
  3. Add required headings as described in the Biographies FAQ
  4. Review Birth, Death and Marriage sections.
    1. Add or update dates and certainty
    2. Add or update locations and certainty
  5. Add optional Research Notes
  6. Review sources
  7. Review suggestions
  8. Add/preserve any Maintenance Categories for the Projects and PIP's Maintenance Category Team
