Mound Bayou Cemetery

From the National Register of Historic Places Registration for Mound Bayou Historic District, the cemetery was described as: "The Mound Bayou Cemetery is an irregular shaped plot of land west of the waterway known Mound Bayou, west of Montgomery Street and Lafayette Avenue, and south of Martin Luther King Drive. The total number of graves in the cemetery is unknown and it is believed there are many unmarked burials. The oldest markers date from the last decades of the 19th century and include a variety of styles. Community co-founders Isaiah T. Montgomery and Benjamin T. Green are buried in the cemetery." The town was founded in 1887, and it appears the oldest burial in the cemetery occurred about 1891 (Addie A. Montgomery, daughter of Isaiah T. Montgomery, died 11 Nov 1891).
