The proof of service was required as part of a pension application, which was granted on the 11th of March, 1901, in the amount of $75.00.

On the 27th of June, 1908, Benjamin applied for an increase in his pension due to "old age and blindness". His petition was granted on the 8th of August, 1908 and his pension was increased to $100.00.
