Isaac was born about 1790. At the age of 24, he served in the War of 1812 as a private with the 3rd Regiment (Frelinghuysen's) New Jersey Militia.
By 1820 Isaac was living in Allegany County, New York and was engaged in farming. The 1820 census indicates he shared his household with a female under 10 and a female between 26 and 45 (presumably his wife and daughter).
Isaac moved his growing family to Michigan around 1824, following his father who moved there before him.
