In 1942 he was working at Woolworth's 5 & Dime in New Albany, Indiana.[3]
Edwin joined the U S Coast Guard in Indiana, [4] to serve during WWII. He served as a Signalman 3rd class and was declared missing in action and then a Naval casualty on 9 March 1944. [4][5] He was awarded a Purple Heart. [4]

Research Notes
"The Cambridge American Cemetery and Memorial site in England, 30.5 acres in total, was donated by the University of Cambridge. It lies on a slope with the west and south sides framed by woodland. The cemetery contains the remains of 3,811 of our war dead; 5,127 names are recorded on the Walls of the Missing. Rosettes mark the names of those since recovered and identified. Most died in the Battle of the Atlantic or in the strategic air bombardment of northwest Europe."[7]
While other records show Benjamin Thomas Snook as his father, that name is not on his birth record[1]
Edwin's name has sometimes been given as Edmund or Edward in error.
