The following story comes from the Clinton County, NY, Civil War Records 1861-1865 Facebook Page: ABRAHAM SNAY ONE OF LINCOLN’s AVENGERS—Abraham was at the capture of Booth the assassin of the 16th New York Cavalry.
The son of Peter Snay, and Sophia Swinyer from Saranac, Abraham was 18-years-old when he enlisted in Plattsburgh on April 19, 1864, to serve three years. After his duties on April 26, 1865 at the Garrett Farm in Virginia, he was transferred to the 3rd Provisional Cavalry on August 17, 1865. He finally mustered out with his company on September 21, 1865, at Camp Barry in Washington, D. C.
Abraham, his wife, Mary Peck, and mother, Sophia Swinyer Snay, are buried in the Patent Cemetery in Peaseleeville.
