Thomas was the son of Thomas Smyth and Elizabeth Hatfield.
He was educated by Mr Carver of Trim, Co Meath, and entered Trinity College Dublin on 12 December 1701, aged 15. B.A. 1706, M.A. 1709, B.D. and D.D. 1745. [1]
He was collated Archdeacon of Glendalough on 7 February 1723; installed February 12th; collated again July 6th, 1726. He appears to have resigned the archdeaconry in 1751.

They married on 28 May 1754 at St Mary's Church, Dublin. [4]
He had no children.
He died sometime after 1754.
