^[1] Obituary SMITHSON-Died at Long Beach, Callfornia, July 25th, 1915, Hillerie Christopher Smithson, aged 71 years, of 1181 Bute street city. The remains arrived in Vancouver Thursday afternoon, and a private funeral will be held on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. from the First Congregational church. The Rev. J. K. Unsworth, D.D., and Rev. J. Mackay, D.D., will officiate Interment in Mountain View cemetery.

Hillerie, son of Todd Smithson & Martha Jane Robertson, died (age 71) on 26 July 1915 in Los Angeles, California, United States.^[3]

Hillerie Christopher Smithson served as a Private in Co. F, 45th VA Inf., Confederate States Army in the Civil War. He moved to Oregon in the early 1870's and was President of Smithson Land Company in the 1890's. After a divorce in 1890, he eventually married again and moved to Seattle, Washington and then to Skagway ,Alaska in Feb. of 1898 or 99 where he was shown as a merchant in 1900 with wife and three young children.
