Hazel Alene Smithers was born on June 20, 1914, in Iowa, daughter of Noel Monroe Smithers and Eda Marie Jensen. She married Cecil Roy Barney on March 12, 1935, in Los Angeles, California. They had three children in 14 years. She died on August 28, 2001, in Everett, Washington, at the age of 87, and was buried in Yuma, Arizona.
