Edwin Smithers has no middle name. Many people have incorrectly stated that he has a middle name of Field, but no one is able to provide any primary evidence of this. I have his baptism records, marriage records, immigration records, original signature as a witness at his daughter's wedding. None of these documents have the name "Field". His death certificate and headstone also do not have this name. It appears someone has mis-typed or mis-interpreted a record and many people have copied without verification. I am happy to change my records if someone can provide primary evidence.
