Biography

Rebecca (Smith) Spears was born in Tennessee before statehood.

Rebecca Smith was born about 1782,[1] probably in North Carolina although no source documents her birth. Her maiden name is also based on undocumented family trees.

Research Notes

Sticker changed from "US Southern Colonists Sticker|North Carolina" to the Tennessee Sticker. The Colonists sticker is for those born before 4 July 1776 (for WikiTree purposes, the start of "USA").

"Hawkins County" was removed from the birth place datafield, since Hawkins County (North Carolina) was not formed until 1787.
"Hawkins County, NC, formed from Sullivan [County], which functioned in parallel with State of Franklin's Spencer [County]--------------1787"[2]

Tennessee was admitted as a state in 1796.[2]

I removed Louther and Barbara (Louderback) Smith as her parents. If the given birthdate is anywhere near correct, she was older than either proposed parent. Her name is not on the list of all of his children that Louther made in a property indenture in 1803 in Hawkins, TN.

She may not be a child of Louther and Barbara (Louderback) Smith or her birthdate is wildly off.

Warning: Check the data.

A child's birth date should not be before a parent is six years old.
