During the December Holidays of 1990, his son, Douglas, went away on holiday. He lived with his son Douglas. He suffered from extreme pain in the stomach area. Later when Douglas returned from holiday, then took him to hospital. The doctors cut him open and found him to be dead inside the stomach. The main blood artery was blocked. He died a few days later. He asked for his daughter Phoebie, she did not make it from Durban. On his death bed, he asked that Tommy and Douglas be friends. The shook hands over him.
