Vaila was born in 1935. She passed away in 2008. Vaila Elizabeth Smith-Oberlin-Teachout of Mesick passed away Monday, March 31, 2008 at her home. She was 72.
Vaila was born April 29, 1935 to Dolford and Lila (Hopkins) Smith in Lansing. She grew up in Lansing and married James Oberlin Jr. They had one son James (Jimmy) Oberlin. Then she married Edward A. (Ted) Teachout on May 26, 1958, Vaila and Ted lived in St. Johns until 1973 when they moved to Mesick. She had 2 step-sons Dale Teachout and Douglas A. Teachout.
Vaila is survived by her husband, Edward Teachout; children, Jimmie Oberlin-(Carolyn) Teachout, Jerry (Edwina)Teachout, and Robin (Tom) Hopewell, all of Mesick; seven grandchildren, and 24 great grandchildren.
Vaila had previously been married to James Alonzo Oberlin Jr. and to that union a son Jimmie was born and when Vaila married Edward Teachout, he adopted Jimmie.
