Biography

• Mary was born in 1852^[1]. She was the daughter of Jerom Smith and Eliza/Lizzie unknown^[2]. Mary married Henry Cheney^[3] and they had ten children^[4]. She passed away in 1916^[5].
• From the census records, it appears that Henry and Mary Cheney started married life living with her parents (1881). By 1891, they had moved into their home in Vankleek Hill (West Hawkesbury). Despite the 1898 fire that destroyed their home, Henry and Mary still lived in Vankleek Hill in 1901. By 1906, the family plus Mary's mother had moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba, where they lived until their deaths (1911 and 1916).

Research Notes

• Mary's middle name is "Tercella" in the Dunning and Jones family trees, and "Tercelia" on daughter Florence's British Columbia Death Registration and on FamilySearch. Since 'i' and 'l' can easily be confused and since the image of the death registration form is no longer available, it isn't yet possible to determine which spelling is correct. Awaiting discovery of further documents to finalize the spelling.
