He does not appear in the 1880 census with parents shown here. He is usually found as an adult in proximity to George W. Slatton and wife Margaret and their issue, who moved from Marion County, Tennesee to Warrior, Jefferson/Blount, Alabama.
Descendants of George W. Slatton interviewed say that William was treated as a full sibling by the rest of their issue, as if there was some question about that, which is why he is categorized this way. Perhaps he is enumerated as Madison or Marion, please report if you think you have found him as an infant or child. His son, Mitchell D. Slatton, reported his middle name as Madison, others in the community say it was Marion.
