William was born on April 13, 1805, in Pennsylvania, the son of Jacob Shriver and Jane Mooney[1].
He was married to Elizabeth Shull, however, a marriage date has not been established. They were the parents of nine children, two of whom died as infants.
He died on November 14, 1880, in Whitely township, Greene county, Pennsylvania, and is buried in the Shriver Cemetery there[2]. A memorial has been placed on Find A Grave.
His obituary was published on December 22, 1880, in the Waynesburg Republican in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania.
The subject of this notice died at his residence in Whiteley Township [Greene Co., PA] on the 14th day of November, 1880, aged 76 years. His death was sudden and therefore unexpected. He was well on Saturday morning, but at noon appeared to be somewhat stupid. The family physician was summoned who pronounced him the victim of a torpid liver, but evidently did not regard the case as alarming. He prescribed a remedy and promised to return the next day. The next morning, however, Mr. Shriver died. On the 2nd of November he had been taken to the elevator and while there was weighed and drew 263 pounds. He was very fleshy, not being a man of large frame. He leaves eight children, four sons and four daughters. Dr. J. L. Shriver of Jollytown, Abraham R., Isaac and Adam, all three of Whitely Township are his sons. He was an upright industrious man and was the owner of a valuable farm.
