Hello Glen, Yes Josie Shoemaker, wife of Lawrence Grant Purvis was my x-wife's Great Grandmother. I knew her well. I interviewed her when she was 90 years old back between 1965-1966. Josie was the only daughter of Robert Harrison Shoemaker and Lucinda Harmon. Josie died on May 15, 1969 while a resident of Missouri. Robert Harrison Shoemaker was the son of William B. & Elizabeth (Kincheloe) Shoemaker. I hope this will help you figure out our Shoemaker family connection.

My ancestors came to this country in the early 1700's from Germany, near the Black Forest area. The family name was Schumacher for the first two generations and then became Shoemaker. When they arrived here they settled along the Hudson River Valley near Rhinebeck, New York. Then moved into Pennsylvania. Philip Shoemaker came to Missouri about 1810 and settled near Booneville, Cooper County, Missouri. Rufus, his son, lived in the Billingsville, Cooper County, Missouri area. His son, Horace Shoemaker moved south to Enon, Moniteau County, Missouri. I am the fourth generation to live in Moniteau County, Missouri.
