Robert Lindsay Shepard was born on 2 October 1911 in Park Ridge, Cook, Illinois, United States.^[1] He was the son of Frank Lederney Shepard and Edith Caroline Thompson.

Robert Lindsay Shepard married Truel Cora'lee Huerth (21) (born on 4 June 1914 in Portland, Multnomah, Oregon, United States; daughter of Anthony Henry Huerth and Ellen Lucada (Snow) Findley) on 29 January 1936 in Kitsap, Washington.^[2] They were the parents of at least 1 daughter
