Charles was born in 1812. He was the son of Edward Shepard and Mary Ayrault. He passed away in 1872. His death notice/obituary in the Cleveland Leader, May 3, 1872 reads in part:
"Another Old Settler passed away..... death of Charles L. Shepard yesterday morning at his late residence. Mr. Shepard some two months ago met with a severe accident by being thrown out of his buggy, resulting in one of his legs being badly broken and confining him to his bed till his death which was caused by internal injuries and nervous prostration....."
It goes on to say that he was born in Wethersfield, Connecticut, moved to Cleveland in 1835 "and went into the chair, sash, door and blind manufacturing business with his brother, Daniel A. Shepard.... He leaves a widow and two children [not named].
