Margaret was born in 1856. She married Horace A. Sherman in Vermont on 2 April 1882.[1] They had 4 children. Margaret died on 27 July 1934 in North Adams, Massachusetts. She is buried in Southview Cemetery in North Adams.[2]

Mrs. Horace A. Sherman
Mrs. Margaret (Shand) Sherman, a resident of this city for more than 50 years and widow of Horace A. Sherman, who for many years was one of the most prominent merchants in Northern Berkshire, died at 5.24 o'clock this morning In her home, 175 Eagle street, following a period of ill health which began last February.
She was born in Huntly, Aberdeenshire. Scotland, a daughter of John and Margaret Smith Shand, and spent the years of her girlhood there. Coming to this country when a young woman in her early twenties, she went first to live in Williamstown and then came here. She was married to Mr. Sherman 52 years ago and the greater part of their married life was spent in this city. Mr. Sherman died on July 8, 1930.
Mrs, Sherman was a high type of woman, kind and motherly and beloved by all with whom she came in contact. She exemplified a true Christian spirit In her every-day life and her acts of kindness, which were legion, were performed unostentatiously and with a fine regard for the feelings of the beneficiaries.
She was a member of the First Congregational church and of its Ladies' Aid. She was greatly interested in the work of the latter society. She also was a member of the Fortnightly Club, the oldest society of Its kind in the city, and of Naomi Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star.
Mrs. Sherman was a woman of much business acumen and last year, despite her advanced age, she supervised the alteration of the Sherman store building which for many years housed the grocery business her husband. She saw to it that the structure, one of the oldest in the city, was converted into one of the most modern groceries In this section, complete even to the minutest detail.
She was extremely proud of her Scotch ancestry and of her family whom she raised with meticulous care. She leaves one son, Arthur E. Sherman of Lanesboro, three daughters, Mrs. William Boyd of Providence, R. I., Miss Jessie Sherman, a member of the Drury High school faculty, and Mrs. Frederick Tanner of Pittsfield, a brother, George Shand of this city, and seven grandchildren.
The funeral will be held In her late home Sunday afternoon at 2.30 o'clock. Rev. William W. Rock will officiate and burial will be in the family lot In Southview cemetery.[3]
Funeral Announcement
The funeral of Mrs. Margaret (Shand) Sherman, widow of Horace A. Sherman, who died on Friday at her home, 175 Eagle street after a long period of ill health, was held yesterday afternoon at the home with Rev. W. W. Rock, pastor of the Congregational church officiating. Many friends were in attendance and the floral tributes were numerous and beautiful. Burial was in the family lot in Southview cemetery. Members of the family were bearers.[4]
