Beatrice June was born 26 August 1906 in Bucyrus, Texas, Missouri [1] toThomas Richard Redd Shacklette Mabel Williams. She was the first child of their marriage, but both had been married and widowed before, with children, so she was more like a middle child. [2]
She was married February 9, 1924 while still in high school, at the age of 17 to Dale Moberly, at the home of her parents in Robineaux, Missouri. [3]. [4]
Their first daughter, Bonnie Moberly was born nine months later, followed in the next few years by two more daughters, Meribel Moberly and Mildred Moberly. Beatrice was a stay at home mother while her husband worked as an attorney.
In the fall of 1929 her husband asked her to file immediately for a divorce so he could marry his stenographer. She did and he did. Within two weeks of his second marriage, he died from a gunshot wound to his stomach which was supposedly suicide (see Dale Moberly ; more of the story in his profile, with newspaper articles.
Until her marriage to Frank Hall in late 1935 or early 1937, (see Research Notes) Beatrice listed herself on census reports as "widowed". She told one of her grand-daughters later in life that just before his death, her husband had told her he wanted to return to their marriage and she had agreed. [5]
It is possible that the hasty divorce and marriage came about because he thought his new bride was pregnant and then found out she was not (no children came from the marriage), and that the discussion of this was what led to his death.
As he lay dying, he willed his property and money to his 3 daughters, aged 5, 2 and 1. With no money and no work experience, Beatrice soon lost custody of the children to her ex-husband's large family. She put herself through secretarial school. [5]
Beatrice lived in Missouri for several years. She can be seen living as Beatrice Moberly until 1935, then after her marriage to Frank, the couple can be seen in city directory in Missouri in 1939. They were still in Springfield in 1940, [6], but moved to Bentonville, Arkansas by 1950 [7] and were in Lubbock, Texas later [8] At some time they moved to Shelby County, Texas and lived there until their deaths. No children came from their union.
Beatrice was an artist. She died of breast cancer in 1972. [5] She was buried in Oaklawn Memorial Park Center, Shelby County, Texas, USA [9]
