Biography

Cross of St George
Jeremiah Seymour was born in England.

Jeremiah Seymour was born 1630 in Olney, Buckinghamshire, England, and was buried on 21 September 1683 in Olney, Buckinghamshire, England. His death is recorded in the parish records, on the same page his grandson Jeremiah York's baptismal date is recorded of 9 September 1683.[1]Parents are Unknown, see Research Notes.

Jeremiah Seymour was married to Ann 'Unknown Surname' she was born about 1630, and was buried on 8 October 1694, Olney, Buckinghamshire, England.

Ann Seymour [spelled 'Seamour' in Bishop's transcripts] widow buried 8 Oct 1694[2]

Two children have been contributed to them per FAG, only Ann is correct:

  1. Ann Seymour born 1652, died 1693, married to Richard York. They were the parents of Jeremiah York.

Disputed Son

This individual is now believed to have never existed: John Seymour born 1675, died 30 July 1709, married to Johanna, they were the parents of Sarah Seymour who was believed to be the first wife of Jeremiah York. (See Correction).[3]Note: There isn't any records of this John Seymour actually existing, the only place found is on FAG.

Correction: It is now believed that Jeremiah York (the emigrant) didn't marry a Sarah Seymour, and that this Sarah is not a real person, but rather someone who never existed. [4]

Research Notes

Jeremiah Seymour was a glovemaker, he was buried 21 Sept 1683. "Glover" added after name in Bishop's transcripts, indicating his occupation as a maker of gloves; this occupational title is common in that era.

He died a few weeks after the birth of Jeremiah Yorke, whose baptism is recorded on the same page as the burial of Jeremiah Seymour.

Jeremiah Seymour and Ann Seamour were married and the parents of Ann Seymour the mother of Jeremiah York. These three are the only Seymour's in the parish registers of 1665-1812. Jeremiah Seymour died a few weeks after the birth of Ann and Richard Yorke son, who they named 'Jeremiah.' There was no record of earlier Seymour's in Olney area, indicating they came from another area.[5] There doesn't appear to be any record of John Seymour (1675) in the Olney, Buckinghamshire Church Records.

Jeremiah' parents are unknown, he wasn't the son of Edward Seymour 3rd BT from Devon, England. Jeremiah wasn't a rich man, he was a "Glover" maker of gloves. Edward Seymour profile doesn't list a son Jeremiah. The FAG site has no sources and shouldn't be used for this profile.

I corrected the father of Ann Seymour and John Seymour. The Seymour line was incorrect before.
