Emma Seed was born on 14 November 1859 ^[1] in Burtonwood, Lancashire, England, the daughter of John Seed and Catherine Lynch.^[2]

She was baptised with her twin sister Martha on 25 December 1859 in Burton-Wood, Lancashire.^[3]

In 1861 Emma was living with her parents and 3 siblings in Tan House Lane, Burtonwood. Her father was an agricultural labourer. ^[2]

In 1881 Emma was living with her parents and her brother in Sherdley Farm, Sutton, Lancashire. Her father was a farm labourer. ^[4]
