Torrey Scranton of Guilford, Connecticut, served more than 6 years in the Revolutionary War.[3][4][5] He enlisted 10 Apr 1777 and served in Captain Elijah Humphrey's Company, Colonel Douglas' Connecticut Regiment. Both Nathaniel Fowler and Jeremiah Rood were discharged from his unit in Dec 1778.[6] He was promoted to Sergeant 1 May 1780 by Col Samuel B Webb. He served in Colonels Return Jonathan Meigs', Gray's and Butler's Regiments and was transferred to Captain Betts' Company, Colonel Samuel B Webb's Regiment. He was in the battles of Danbury and Brunswick. Torrey Scranton Sergeant in the 3rd Connecticut Regiment was discharged 8 June 1783 and honored with a Badge of Merit for six years service.
Torrey Scranton, of North Guilford, son of Timothy, married his first cousin Rachel Hall, daughter of Ebenezer, March 1781. Rachel and Torrey are both descendants of Abigail (Snowden) Torrey (1707-1737).[7][8][9] She was born 5 July 1759[10] and died 10 Jan 1831.[11]
Torrey Scranton appeared before the court in New Haven, Connecticut on 7 Jul 1820 to request a pension for his service. He stated his age as 66 years and residence as Guilford.
He identified his property worth $44.45 including his house and garden and his occupation as day laborer. He identified his occupation as day laborer. His wife was aged 62 years and daughters Rachel aged 27 years and Mary aged 22 years were both feeble and unable to support themselves.[3]
His pension was granted, payable the 4th March and 4th Sept each year at Middletown, Connecticut, and he requested an increase on 16 Apr 1833.[3]
Effie Scranton Seward (Mrs. H.L. Seward) requested a copy of pension papers 10 Jul 1928 for her great great grandfather Torry Scranton of Guilford, Connecticut born 6 Apr 1756.

Ebenezer Hall and Mary Torrey were the parents of Rachel Hall. Mary's sister Abigail and her husband Timothy Scranton were the parents of Torrey Scranton.
