Biography

William Scott Jr. was born in 12 May 1843^[1] in Roxburghshire, Scotland^[2][3], possibly in Hawick, Roxburghshire, Scotland (unsourced) to William Scott Sr. (1802-1881) and Anne (Cairns) Scott (1806-1872)^[4].  His birth family immigrated to Canada in 1854^[3].  William was a farmer^[3][1]. "William Scott (Jr.), born in 1843, farmed with his father and brother Robert. … William erected the buildings, a large barn and frame house and later a red-brick house. … William Scott was interested in education and was a school trustee for some time."^[5]

William married Janet (Agnew) Scott (1854-1947) on 31 May 1877 in Elderslie, Bruce, Ontario, Canada^[4].  The couple had 8 children :

John, known as Jack, b. 1882^[8][3]

Robert George, known as Bob, b. 1884^[9][3]

"He (William) married Janet Agnew of Brussels (in Huron County, Ontario, Canada - this is probably incorrect as their marriage record says that she was resident in Grey County at the time of marriage), and had a family of eight: Ann, James, John, Robert, Janet, Cliff (who died quite young), Anabelle (Belle) and Walter. Robert married Agnes Forrest of Moorefield, and lived in Palmerston and later moved to Toronto. Jim, Janet, Ann and Walter left the area.  His son, John, and daughter Belle remained on the farm."^[5]
Of the eight children of William Scott Jr., only Robert and Walter had children of their own :  Stewart Cliff died young^[14], William James married but had no children, the other four never married^[14][15].

William died on 2 Dec 1923 at his home in Minto, Wellington County, Ontario, Canada^[1].  He is buried in Harriston Cemetery, Harriston, Wellington County, Ontario, Canada^[16].  "He died in 1928 (incorrect), at age 85 (incorrect), and Janet, in 1947, age 93. After John's death in 1954, Belle sold the farm to Michael Iwanyk and she moved to Toronto."^[5]
