Coretta Scott King was an author and an activist. She was a leader in the Civil Rights Movement, and the widow of Martin Luther King, Jr. ^[1]

Coretta Scott was born in Marion, Perry, Alabama on Wednesday,^[2] April 27, 1927, the daughter of Obadiah Scott and Bernice (McMurray) Scott.^[3][4].

On June 18, 1953, Coretto Scott (26) married Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. (24) in Election Precinct 29, Alabama City, Etowah, Alabama, United States.^[4] The bride's parents were Obbie Scott and Bernice Mc Murry.

Coretta King passed away on Monday,^[2] January 30, 2006, in Rosarito, Playas de Rosarito in Baja California, Mexico.^[3] She is buried at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Center in Atlanta, Fulton, Georgia.^[5]

She was posthumously inducted into the Alabama Women's Hall of Fame in 2009 ^[6], and the National Women's Hall of Fame in 2011 ^[7].
