Johannes was born about 1685. His birthplace is uncertain, as is how and when he arrived in the New Jersey colony.
A "Johannes Schwall" arrived in 1710-1711 in New York, New York[1]
He married Eagnes (aka Agnesia). Their son Jacob Schwalluw was born on January 8 1720 and baptised on 7 August 1720 in the Raritan Meeting of the Dutch Reformed Church[2]
Johannes passed away in 1748.

↑Glennwolenec 2021-11-02Media "There is a record of March 25, 1737 when Johannes Swallow mortgaged 180 acres on "the road leading to Rarington," which could be almost anywhere. A complicating factor is that his son Johannes Swallow, Jr. died the same year he did. Both men wrote wills a short time apart, Johannes Sr. on December 27, 1748 and Johannes Jr. on December 30th. Both were yeomen of Amwell." "Person Info

Notes
a.Note: [030310.ged] According to some info sent to me many years ago, I also am descended from Swallows of Hunterdon Co, NJ. I received this info second hand, and I don't know if
the original sender is still alive. She's related to my mother, so I'll check. Not much of
it is documented, but some of it seemed to ring a bell with your posting. Here's what
she wrote:
"Johannes Swallow came to Amwell, Hunterdon Co., New Jersey, in the early 1700's.
(from where?)" [Holland via England? Dave's note] "He and his wife, Eagnes, had a
daughter, and two sons, Jacob and Johannes, Jr. No birth date is given for Johannes,
Sr. but he and Johannes, Jr. died within days of each other in 1748. J,Jr. left a son and
two daughters who remained in New Jersey.
"The above is authenticated. Now, the life of Jacob Swallow becomes a problem,
mostly conjecture and hearsay, with no documents to prove the story, as yet.
"Jacob seems to have had at least a daughter, but is listed as a single man in 1780,
and he died in 1788, intestate. [Dave's note: there's a Jacob of the right age in 1790
census.]
"A Jacob Swallow is listed as a private in Capt. Cornelius Hoppock's Company in
January 1777, and fought at the battle of Van Neste's Mills.
"Five male Swallows were recorded in Hunterdon in the 1790's, not accounted for in
Johannes' family. One is a Jacob of suitable age for the Revolutionary War.
"A tentative family for 'old' Jacob (son of Johannes) could be: Isaac Francis-born 4
Nov 1763; died 30 Mar 1840 - Benjamin, Daniel, James, and at least one daughter." [It
continues with Isaac and his wife's family.]
She also indicates some documentation problems, as you see. But the time frame
seems to fit with the Benjamin and Amy mentioned in your postings. Isaac married
about 1790, for example. (The Isaac appears to be my ancestor, which may be why
the letter goes no further with the others.)
I haven't tried too hard yet to substantiate any of the above on my own. Perhaps,
though, this will jog a red flag up the pole somewhere. (mixed metaphor?) Let me
know if this helps because I'd like to log Benjamin's and Amy's families as well, if
possible.
Good Luck.

b.Continued: Note: Johannes' name authenticated by his will signed by mark & fromhis son's baptism in 1720 where he's called Johannes Schwalluw
Some records show him as John
In 1888 a descendant claimed two brothers came from Eng beforethe Rev War, one brother to RI, the other "further west", thisbranch (90-6). It's yet to be proven if Johannes is actuallythis 2nd brother, but it seems likely in Amwell ca 1727 per deed records. He arrived earlier than that, but the original deed is gone.
On Amwell list owing $ in 1739
His will dated 27 Dec 1748, proven 29 Mar 1749"
