Biography

Roll of Honor
Sgt. Cyrus Scholl Died while a Prisoner of War during the United States Civil War.

NOTE: There are 2 f-a-g memorials that appear to be the same man. the Alton cemetery one does not have a photo of the stone... The Confederate cemetery does... The dates of death are just slightly off but then the military is known for using different dates, as per a couple of military experts... one in the 1st (no nps record) and this one that served with the 10th.

One is actually the "Camp Alton Prison Confederate Monument" erected in 1909 and there is also a memorial for him at the Alton Cemetery.. probably where he was actually laid to rest.

"This unit originally was Col. Emmett MacDonald's Missouri Cavalry Regiment. Due to casualities and MacDonald's death, it was reduced to become the 11th Missouri Cavalry Battalion under command of Lt. Col. Merritt L. Young. In fall of 1863, after it increased back to regimental size, it was redesignated the 10th Missouri Cavalry and commanded by Col. Robert R. Lawther. Last Name First Name/MI State Unit Sub Unit Rank

" I certainly agree that the record you found is for the prisoner of war but I have come to doubt that that service belonged to Cyrus, son of Septimus. That's my conclusion so far." Janice

ANSWER: didn't believe that there could possibly be

3 Cyrus Rector Scholl's from the same county in Missouri............

No source..........right? IF ONLY the military documents mentioned his age? Ok---Guess I will make his own profile

THERE ARE, NOW 3 Cyrus Rector Scholl's

THE other 2 Cyrus

1) He, Cyrus Rector SCHOLL
son of Septimus and brother to Marcus, conveyed property to brother Marcus on Feb 1868.
BORN 1835 Clark County, Kentucky
DIED AFTER-- Feb. 1868...........(no SOURCE, yet)
Married: 14 June 1855--Jackson, Missouri Spouse: Eliza Jane Parr

2) Dr. Cyrus Rector Scholl, Septimus' brother, Joseph's son.
born 1824-26
So now WE KNOW that Joseph's Dr. son didn't die until after 1872.
die until 1872. FindAGrave 9042290  :Dr. Cyrus born 1824 who married Mary Jane Maughas

THIS IS WHAT I DID TO THE Septimus son...AND THEN TRANSFERRED ALL TO this one... So I feel that it is ok to start editing this one to match the CSA Military Records, even though there is no age. there is enough info as to lead me to believe that this is the man that was the POW Replace the DATE/PLACE of DEATH "Jackson Co., Missouri" with that of the POW muster card. 1868 with "Feb 10 1865" --add cemetery from f-a-g

Research

SEARCHING this Sgt. Cyrus R. Scholl, and what we know and have proof of
his YEAR OF BIRTH is based on the OLDEST soldiers, in 1862 --51 years old--born 1811 to the youngest age 17...1845-46................
We know where, when, cause of death and place of burial................
We have the Confederate Regiment he served with, when and the state he joined, but not the COUNTY...
RESULTS of familysearch.org for all SCHOLL families in Missouri, just 2 are found, one in Jackson County and one in Callaway County........both of which ARE THE OTHER Cyrus families. So unless his family was listed under another spelling??? like SCHOOL or SCHOLE etc.. there is nothing.
  • CYRUS #1) There is no source for the date/state of death "1868 Jackson Co. MO"
  • Here is one Cyrus R. Scholl, who was a Sgt. with the 10th CSA.. captured and died in the Military Prison at Alton, Illinois. find a grave. (have requested a photo Taylor-25258 11:17, 3 March 2017 (EST)
OF course there is no age for Cyrus the CSA...
  • HERE IS another one: born 1827 Missouri.............
YET another family who named their kids the same as their siblings...............
HE CAN NOT be their son because he was born 1800 as per the census, so maybe the JOSEPH SCHOLL is Septimus' brother Joseph Jr.
1850 Callaway county, Callaway, Missouri
Age 50
