Biography

John Henry Schneider, Jr. was born 16 July 1922[1] in Seattle, King, Washington[2] to John Schneider, Sr. and Sarah Kettering. He was married on 12 January 1946 in Seattle, King, Washington [3] John fought in the "European Theatre" during WWII in the US Army 246 Combat Engineers [4]; on 5 March 1945 John received the Bronze Star Medal Citation for heroic achievement in Germany. After he left the army, John settled in Seattle and was a carpenter by trade. He died 1 October 2011 at the Veteran's Hospital, Seattle, King, Washington[5] and is buried at the Tahoma National Cemetery.

Award of the Bronze Star Medal Citation
Sergeant John H. Schneider, Corps of Engineers, 246th Engineer combat Battalion, United States Army, is awarded the Bronze Star Medal for heroic achievement in Germany, on 23 February 1945, in connection with military operations against the enemy. Prior to H hour of the planned operation, Sergeant Schneider, with the other members of his party, crossed swollen, swift flowing river and, under direct enemy observation, made his way to the enemy held shore, securing the anchor cable and returning to assist in his direction of construction of the bridge under heavy enemy artillery and mortar fire. The leadership, courage, and devotion to duty displayed by Sergeant Schneider reflect great credit upon himself and the Military Service. John entered Military Service from the National Guard at Camp Murray in Washington State. He began with three months of Medical Basic. He transferred to and served thirty months in the Combat Engineers as a Construction Foreman and at the end of WWII he was assigned to Co C 276th Inf and in 1945 was discharged at Fort Lewis, Washington on 19 October 1945.

Thanks, Natalie. I've corrected the template and edited the profile to explain the two. My dad was in both the 246th Combat Engineers and the 276th Infantry. He served in the Combat Engineers during WWII and was assigned to the 276th Infantry at the end of the War for discharge.
Very nice profile. You need to make a correction to the military template, though, due to its creation of a red-link (see, below).

Also, the text in the biography says he served in the 246th Engineer Combat Battalion but the category showing is 276th Infantry? Which one is correct?

If it's the 246th, you should use in the template: unit=246th Engineer Combat Battalion.
