Biography
Gertrude was born in Adelaide, South Australia in 1895, the daughter of Augustus Frederick Schmidt and Ada Lean[1] who had married in Adelaide in 1881.[2] The family lived at Kanmantoo, a copper mine 44km south east of Adelaide.[3]
Gertrude married Leslie John Rittberger in 1919 at Norwood. [4] Leslie was employed on the Adelaide Tramways and was very active in the Employees' Association.[5] The couple lived in Adelaide and had five children - three sons and two daughters.[6]
Gertrude passed away in 1976.[7]
