Anna was born about 1832, possibly in Olvenstedt, Wolmirstedt, Province of Saxony, Prussia. Her parents are believed to be Johann Simon Schmidt and Henriette Elisabeth Meienberg. [1]
Anna immigrated to the United States sometime before 1855, the exact date is unknown at this time. Her first documented location in the U.S. is in Ohio County, Virginia, now West Virginia, where she married Andreas Bauer about 16 July 1855. [2][3]They had the following known children:
Sometime between 1858-1860, Anna's husband passes away and she is left with three fatherless children. It is not known if he died in Virginia, Kansas, or somewhere in between. Oddly, Anna has since remarried and is found 900 miles west in Davis County Kansas. [4] where she married her second husband, Alois Spenner, on 8 August 1860 in Davis County, now called Geary County Kansas. [5][6]
By 1870, Anna and her husband have migrated a short distance to nearby Dickinson County Kansas. [7]
On the 1880 U.S. census, Anna Spenner is 48 years old and resides with her husband Alois Spenner in Liberty Township, Dickinson County Kansas. [8] Also residing in the home are Emma Spenner, age 14; Arnold Spenner, age 9; George Spenner, age 7; Sallia Bauer, age 22 and her son Daniel Bauer, age 3.
In 1895 Anna and her husband sold their property and moved to Major County Oklahoma Territory. [9] Sadly, Anna passed away shortly after their arrival in February 1896. [10][11]
Research Notes
I have not found her immigration record.
The marriage record source citation is not an image of the marriage license itself. It would be nice to have the license because they frequently also list the names of the parents of the bride and groom.
