Biography

Leonard "Lenny" Schmidt was born in 1904. He was the son of George Matthais Schmidt (1870-1955) and Anna Elisabetha Gehringer (1871-1912).^[1]

Lenny was the youngest of his siblings, and his mother Anna was sick and subsequently institutionalized, so his older sister, Marie, helped with much of his care while she was still quite young!

The 1910 Census^[2] shows him at age 5 in the home of his father in Kawkawlin Township, Bay County, Michigan. His mother, Anna, is not present on this census.

The 1920 Census^[3] shows him at age 15 in the home of his father in Kawkawlin Township, Bay County, Michigan.

The 1930 Census^[4] shows him at age 24 as a boarder in the home of Emil Nitschke, whose sister Emma is married to his uncle Michael Gehringer.

Lenny married Gertrude Berner on 9 Nov 1930 in Beaver Township, Bay County, Michigan.^[5]
They had two children:

The 1950 Census^[8] shows him at age 45 with his wife and two children at 1210 Salzburg Road in Monitor Township, Bay County, Michigan. He is selling houses, in the real estate and insurance business. He lived in the same house in the prior year.
