Johann was born around 1760.

Research Notes

The spelling of the family name is variable. Bacher, Bächer and Becher all appear. Registrars may have written the names as they heard them, or the as person concerned thought they should be spelt. As Wikitree cannot handle variable names, it is necessary to stick with the spelling in the oldest available document.

Johann is recorded as a "3/4-Höfer". This expression, which could be translated as a "3/4-farmer" or "3/4-holder", was a way of describing a smallholding that was not quite large enough to support a family, requiring the smallholder to work additional land or take a part-time job to make ends meet.

One also finds instances of "1/2-Höfer" - i.e. definitely inadequate to support a family.

Note that these expressions are an estimation of the productivity of the smallholding, not its area.
