There was a snow storm on that date, and Jodi went into labor the night of the 28th. Dave drove her to the hospital in his car, and Jodi was in labor overnight. She had not requested any painkillers for the delivery, and so when it came time to name Madison, she was too exhausted to participate. Dave named her, with the help of the attending nurses. The movie "Splash" was playing in the delivery room, and the main character was named Madison; the storyline had the character, a mermaid who comes on to land, pick that name from the city, Madison, WI. Before this movie, Madison was not a popular girl's name. Dave and Jodi agreed on that and gave Madison the middle name "Mae" because her due date had been in May. Madison has gone by the nickname "Madi" since a very young age, and her mother affectionately calls her "Madi Mae" or "Madz".
