Biography

August Scheel was born Holstein, Germany, 24 May^[1] 1842^[2][1]/1843^[3][2]/1844^[3]/1845^[4]/1846^[4].

He was the son of Detlef Scheel.^[1] His parents, both born Holstein^[2], were unmarried. He didn't know his mother's name.^[1]

He emigrated from Germany to the USA, 1851. ^[2]

He married Bertha Steffen at Scott, Iowa, 23 February 1870. ^[5]

Aged 36 in 1880 he was a farmer residing Fairview, Shelby, Iowa, with his wife and four children. ^[3]

Aged 39 in 1885 he was a farmer residing Fairview with his wife and five children. ^[4]

Aged 87 in 1930 he was retired, residing Avoca, Pottawattamie, Iowa, with his wife, son Rudolph Scheel, and granddaughter Henrietta Scheel. ^[2]

August died aged 89 from influenza, Avoca 06 March 1932. ^[1]
