Wm Scheel, 94, Oldest Resident, Dies Monday Nov 22
Wilhelm Frederick Scheel, 94, Poynette’s oldest resident, passed away at his home here on Monday evening after having been in failing health for some time. Mr Scheel was born in Germany and came to this country in 1883.
Surviving are two daughters, Theresa at home and Mrs Minnie Olson, De Forest, two sons, Albert, Poynette and Emil of Hauer, Wisconsin: 18 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren.
The body was taken from the Stacker Funeral Home to Mr Scheel’s home in Poynette prior to services. Funeral services were held Thursday at 1pm from the home and 1:30 at St Peters Lutheran church at Arlington.
Interment was in Hillside Cemetery.""

On Nov 22, 1948 at 5:30 in the evening Mr Wilhelm Friedrich Scheel, 94, passed away at his home to eternal rest.
Wilhelm Friedrich Scheel, born Oct 18, 1854 was baptized on Nov 5 , 1854 at Hakill(?) in Pommern, Germany. He was united in marriage to Dorothea Maria Kaiser Nov 15, 1877 and to this union were born 6 children, two whom preceded him in death.
He came to America in 1883, and settled in Columbia County and then moved to Dane County near De-Forest. There he farmed nine years. From there he moved to Columbia County in Leeds many years. He moved to Poynette 20 years ago. After farming in the town of Leeds for many years, in the year 1916 they moved to the Village of Poynette. His wife preceded him in death in 1921.
Mr Wilhelm Scheel was a faithful member of the St Peters Lutheran Church of Arlington. His favorite pastime has been the memorizing of Bible Verses, particularly the psalms and in learning the words of favorite hymns. Always mindful of the needs of others, he and his daughter have sent many letters and boxes to Europeans, people not known to them, but friends in need.
He leaves to mourn his life, two daughters and two sons. Mr Emil Scheel of Hauer, Wis, Miss Theresa Scheel of Poynette, Mrs Minnie Olson of DeForest and Mr Albert Scheel of Poynette: 18 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren and seven great great grandchildren. The body was taken from the Stacker Funeral home to Mr Scheel’s home in Poynette prior to services.
Funeral services were held Thursday at 1 pm from the home and at 1:30 pm at St Peters Lutheran Church at Arlington. Interment was in Hillside Cemetery. The casket bearers were the six grandsons; Walter Scheel, Verne Scheel, Wilbert Scheel, David Scheel, Kenneth Scheel, Daniel Olson.""

The body will be taken from the Stocker funeral h o m e to the residence tonight. MR. SCHEEL Born in Rakit Kriespyritz in Pommern, Germany, Mr. Scheel immigrated to the United States and settled in Columbia county in 1883. He moved to Poynette 39 years ago, after farming in the town of Leeds for many years. Mindful of the needs of others,Mr. Scheel and his daughter, Tressa, with whom he lives, have sent many letters and boxes to Europeans. Survivors include two . sons,Emil, Hauer; and Albert, Poynette; two daughters, Tressa and Mrs. Minnie Olson, De Forest; 18 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great grandchildren, two of whom reside in New Zealand.""

Poynette's Oldest Citizen, Scheel, Marks 93rd Year

POYNETTE William Friedrich Scheel, oldest citizen of Poynette, observed his 93rd birthday at his home Saturday, with several relatives and friends calling to extend greetings in the afternoon. Scheel was born in Rakit Kreispyritz in Pommern, Germany. He came to Columbus in 1883. Until 38 years ago, he was a farmer in the town of Leeds, and near DeForest.
Since retiring from the farm, he and his daughter,Tressa, have resided in Poynette. Among his hobbies were constructing outdoor decorations for homes at Christmas time and fashioning rugs with unusual materials, such as cattail leaves. His mind has been kept keen and active with the memorizing of Bible verses, particularly psalms, and favorite hymns.
During recent years Scheel and his daughter have sent letters and boxes to Europe who they have, never seen. The morning of his anniversary, Scheel remarked, "I wonder if any of our new friends are thinking of my birthday." When the mail came that morning it contained two birthday cards from overseas.
Scheel has two sons, Emil, Hauer, Wis., and Albert, Poynette; two daughters, Tressa, Poynette, and Mrs. Minnie Olson, DeForest; 18 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, . and five great-great-grandchildren, two of them living in New Zealand.
