I was adopted. Santry is the family name for the people that adopted me. I am learning about my birth parents as I go. My original birth certificate call me "Baby Boy Ray"

In 2018 I met my birthmother, Surname Ray. She introduced me to my ½ sister and ½ brother, identified my birthfather, and gave me her family tree that she had been developing for years. Our connection has been confirmed this a DNA match on 23andMe along with my ½ brother. We have all bonded wonderfully and are in ongoing contact.

A 23andMe DNA match with a ½ niece confirms my birthfather's identity, Surname James. She was the closest contact I've had on that side as of Apr 25, 2021. In May 2021 I reached out to a ½ brother and have now had direct contact with several ½ sibling and other relatives of my James side. One of the ½ brothers did Ancestry DNA and confirmed our relationship.

Hi cousin, I’m not sure which line we share common ancestors together..we are matching as 5th cousins. Reading your profile, I’d like to figure it out! :) Amy

Hi back cousin. I just did some basic searching around and am not sure - yet. Using the WikiTree "relationship to me" tool they suggest we are common to a Prichett born in 1641- on my mother's side and they suggest a 9th cousin relationship . However our DNA matches at FTDNA and MyHeritage and they both group you with other DNA matches on my father's side at a much closer relationship. GEDmatch and MyHeritage suggests we share DNA on chr4. I can't find our match on 23andMe. So, more digging might be helpful. I'm at [email address removed] if you would like to use direct email. Thanks for reaching out.

Hi cousin. Thanks for reaching out. John is my 5th great grandfather. I suspect our DNA match is lower than the Ancestry threshold. Good to connect here. I'll look over the Crump family info you have on your Ancestry tree. My connection is on my fathers side but through female defendants os our Y-DNA and mTDNA won't match - so it goes. Have you used GEDmatch?

I have an autosomal kit that I am mailing on Monday.

Will Keep you posted.

I am trying to build up the documentation inthe ancestry.com Crump file.

I do not use other family trees as sources as that appears to spread errors.

I respect you working to document your tree information. My tree is not that rigorous, i rely on DNA match info to support who I have added. I have no access to any family history on my father's side and limited information back past about the 4th great grandparents on my mother's side.

Please keep me posted of your test results. Thanks

We share distant DNA through your biological Hocker line. Our common ancestor is Philip Hocker (1716-1774). His sons Nicholas (yours) and Philip Jr (mine) came to Kentucky in the late 1700's early 1800's. Nicholas was married to Sarah Barnes (1751-1838) who was the daughter of Maj. Weaver Barnes (Rev. War Soldier). Weaver Barnes is my 6th great grandfather. This means we are connected twice. Weaver married Elizabeth Waters (1710-1785). There are many "Weavers" in the Hocker line. Sarah's sister Dorcas was my 6th great grandmother. She married Philip Jr.. The Hocker's have pretty much stayed in Kentucky, Missouri, Ohio. A line went out to California early in the 20th century. John Hocker (1625-1696) is the original Hocker immigrant. He is supposedly from Wales. There are parish records that support this. The legend is that he on his way to church with his governess and was abducted. Put on a ship for the colonies and forced into service. He was 12.

Hi Ursula, thank for reaching out. Following your message I looked at my master tree on Ancestry, sure enough these Philip Jr. was right next to Nicholas. I had yet to develop his line at all, nor had I gone back past their father and mother. I'm now going to take that on - including the Barnes line back. It looks like on GEDmatch we share 6 segments, the largest being 4.3 cM - not enough for Ancestry or FTDNA to match us - darn. I have found your Ancestry page, mine is under Horace Santry. I saw the GEDmatch numbers for your mother and father, I'm actually a stronger match for your mother then your father = 8 segments the largest is 5.3 cM. My number is A289957 if you haven't found it in my profile here. The blog you linked is very interesting and a little overwhelming. I'll dig in as I can. Thanks again for reaching out.

Hi Horace,

Thanks for taking the Pre-1700 Quiz!

Welcome and good luck on tracing your family! I did a GEDMatch comparison. We are a match and the message said our most recent common ancestor is probably 7 generations back. I have Chapmans in my line. I'm still working on them though and am not quite seven generations back. I looked at your family tree. I saw the name Kennedy. I also have that name in my ancestry, but again, I'm not quite 7 generations back.
