--Extract from the Ballarat Star 3rd August 1909[2]--

LEARMUNTH.

DEATH OF MRS W. VAUGHAN.

Very general regret was expressed in consequence of the death - which occurred early on Sunday morning - of Mrs William Vaughan, sen., of The Laurels, Learmonth. The deceased lady, who was 70 years of ago, was an old resident of the district, and was much esteemed for her amiable and sympathetic disposition by a large circle of friends. The late Mrs Vaughan had been in indifferent health for some years past, her suffering having been increased by the shocks received through the death of her son Charles, who was killed in the South African war, and later the death of her son Thomas, who was killed by being thrown from a horse he was riding near his homestead at Gordon. During last summer and up to a couple of months ago her condition seemed to improve, and her friends were hopeful that, she was returning to good health. The deceased was a consistent and loyal member of the local Church of England, and when in good health, was one of its most zealous workers and liberal supporters. The deepest sympathy will be felt for her husband and other members of the family. The funeral took place on Monday, and was largely attended. Messrs A. Greenfield, jun., A Robertson, .T. Troup, Geo. Fraser, B. Cumming. and J. Baird (Rosobank) acted as coffin-bearers, and the pall-bearers were Messrs Geo. Crocker, Chas. Hamilton. Dr C. A. Courtney, W. Rain, W. L. Hunter, Cr M. Ryan, P. Donovan, set. , S. Holgato, A. Farrar, H. T. Hughes. W. D .Sara, John MedweLl. R. L. Med well, aud C. C. Baird. The Rev. T P. Bennett conducted the burial service, and the mortuary arrangements were carried out by Mr Chas. Morris.
